If your Model S has a factory trunk spoiler, be sure to remove it from the vehicle. This can be done by having one person slowly pull the factory rear trunk spoiler away from the vehicle while another uses a piece of fishing line to cut through the factory adhesive as shown below. Be sure to apply minimal pressure to the fishing line to avoid damage to the factory paint during the removal process. It may also be helpful to lay down some masking tape around the edges of the factory spoiler to prevent scoring the paint in an exposed area.
Now that you have removed the OEM spoiler, you will need to clean any trapped debris from the trunk to allow the new spoiler to properly adhere to the trunk. You’ll first want to use compressed air to remove any dirt and dust particles. This will allow you to apply pressure during the adhesive removal process without pushing dirt into the paint.
Next, you will use a non-abrasive adhesive remover on the excess material left over. You’ll want to follow the same steps to remove the OEM Tesla badges as well.
Now that your trunk has been thoroughly cleaned, you’re ready to test fitment! When aligning the spoiler on the trunk, you’ll want to focus on the bottom alignment first to ensure proper paint coverage as shown below.
Once your desired placement has been achieved, trace the outline of the trunk spoiler with masking tape as a reference line for final installation. This will also be used as reference when applying the provided adhesive promoter to the paint surface of the trunk. Once the tape has outlined the final intended position of the spoiler, remove the spoiler from the vehicle.
Next, prep the spoiler by removing a small lead end of each section of adhesive backing tape as shown in the photo below. These will act as pull tabs during installation. You can also add masking tape to the lead ends for easier access to the pull tabs as shown below.
Next, apply the provided adhesive promoter to the areas where the rear spoiler adhesive will make contact with the painted surface of the trunk. Use the masking tape line as reference.
Then, place the rear spoiler on the trunk of the vehicle following your masking tape reference line. Once the spoiler is fitted to the vehicle, apply pressure toward the spoiler while using the lead end pull tabs to remove the adhesive backing, starting with the lower section of the spoiler.
Then, push the top of the spoiler forward while lifting the outer edge as shown below.

With the backing tape removed from the top and bottom sections of the spoiler, apply downward pressure to the bonded areas.

Now that the backing tape has been removed on the upper and lower sections of the spoiler, proceed to remove the backing tape from the sides of the spoiler.
Congratulations! Your Tesla Model S Carbon Fiber Longtail Spoiler installation is complete. The adhesive will begin to set within a few hours; please avoid moisture (rain, washing, or detailing) for at least 24 hours to ensure a proper cure. Otherwise, you’re all set to go!
