Raise and support the vehicle and remove the front wheels
Raise and support the vehicle and remove the front wheels
Before raising the vehicle, set the vehicle in Jack Mode under Service Settings in the display. Using a floor jack and jack stands (or shop lift if available), safely and securing raise the vehicle and support it.
Using a 21mm socket, remove the 5 lugs and front wheels from the vehicle.
Remove the front underbody panel
Remove the factory Lower Compliance Fore Arms
To retain approximate alignment specs after reassembly, use chalk paint or a marker to mark the position of the face of the eccentric washer and subframe.
Loosen the 21mm bolt and 22mm nut at the subframe mounting point. Do not remove the nut and bolt yet.
Next, using a T45 torx socket and a 22mm wrench, loosen the nut that attaches the arm’s ball joint on the underside of the hub knuckle.
Finally, remove the nut and pull the bolt out from the other end while supporting or holding the arm in place to prevent it from swinging down.
Once all nuts and bolts are loose and removed, carefully work the arm loose from the hub lifting upward and then down and out from the subframe.
Install the UP Front Lower Compliance Fore Arms with Spherical Bushings
Install using the same process as removal in the opposite order. Position the new Unplugged Performance Front Lower Compliance Fore Arm into place by inserting the ball joint into the hub side first.
Next, lift the arm into place at the subframe end and secure it by inserting the 21mm bolt.
Use the supplied Nord Lock Nut (locking nut) at the hub side and hand tighten all hardware.
Be sure to align the eccentric bolt markings made in step 3.
Torque hardware to spec to complete installation of the Front Lower Compliance Fore Arms
To prevent added tension to the arms and bushings at the mounting points, lift the hub assembly using a floor jack (or transmission jack if car is on a lift) into the loaded position. This is generally where the suspension will rest when the vehicle is on the ground under its own weight.
Torque hardware to spec to complete installation of the Front Lower Compliance Fore Arm:
Subframe – Using a 21mm wrench on the bolt, and a torque wrench with a 22mm socket on the nut, tighten the inner subframe side to 115 Nm (84.8 lbs-ft)
Hub – Using a torque wrench with a 22mm socket tighten the provided lower Nord Lock nut at the hub to 180 Nm (132.7 lbs-ft)
Once the hardware is torqued to spec, lower the hub assembly.
You have now installed the Front Lower Compliance Fore Arms and are ready to move to the Front Lower Lateral Aft Arm.
Remove the factory Front Lower Lateral Aft Arms
To retain approximate alignment specs after reassembly, use chalk paint or a marker to mark the position of the face of the eccentric washer and subframe.
Loosen the hardware at the three mounting points for the arms, but do not remove it yet. Using a 21mm socket and/or wrench, loosen the bolt and nut securing the strut fork mount. Next, using a T45 torx socket and a 22mm wrench, loosen the nut that attaches the ball joint to the knuckle hub. Lastly, loosen the 21mm bolt and 22mm nut at the subframe mounting point.
Once all hardware has been loosened, continue with the removal of all the hardware, securely holding the arm up to prevent it from swinging down or dropping. Carefully work the arm loose from the hub, lifting upward, tilting down, and out from the subframe.
Install the UP Front Lower Lateral Aft Arms with Spherical Bushings
The installation is the reverse of the removal process. First, position the Unplugged Performance Front Lower Lateral Aft Arm into place by inserting the ball joint into the hub first.
Then, lift the arm into place at the strut fork and subframe mount and insert the 21mm bolts into each.
Secure the bolts with nuts, and hand tighten the provided 22mm Nord Lock nut at the hub. Be sure to align the eccentric bolt markings made in step 6 at the subframe so that the alignment is not grossly off to prevent driving to an alignment shop/rack.
Torque down the hardware to spec to complete installation of the UP Front Lower Lateral Aft Arms
To prevent added tension to the arms and bushings at the mounting points, lift the hub assembly using a floor jack (or transmission jack if car is on a lift) into the loaded position. This is generally where the suspension will rest when the vehicle is on the ground under its own weight.
Strut Fork – Using a 21mm wrench on the bolt, and a torque wrench with a 21mm socket on the nut, tighten the strut lower fork mount 21mm nut and bolt to 106 Nm (78 lb-ft)
Once the hardware is torqued to spec, lower the hub assembly. You have now completed the installation of the Front Lower Lateral Aft Arms and are ready to move to the Front Lower Lateral Aft Arm.
Install the underbody panel
Using the reverse process from removal, reinstall the 10mm bolts and clips that attach the underbody panel to the vehicle.
Install the wheels and lower the vehicle
Mount the wheels and securely tighten the 5 lug nuts. You’ll torque the lug nuts in step 11 once the vehicle is on the ground.
Ensure vehicle components are secure and clear the underside of the vehicle of all tools and components. Lower the vehicle off the jackstands or service lift. On the car’s display, turn off Jack Mode in the Service Settings.
Torque wheel lug nuts
With the car on the ground on its own weight, torque all the wheel lug nuts down to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft)
Proceed to complete a 4-wheel alignment
Because alignment components were removed and/or adjusted as a result of this installation process, your vehicle will require an alignment to ensure drivability and tire wear are optimized.
It is recommended during the alignment process to unload the tension on bushings by loosening the hardware at each joint and retorquing to spec while the vehicle is on the alignment rack.
